Juventus goalkeeper Szczęsny quips, "Masks are for Zorro," emphasizing his disregard for wearing one
Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny endured a fractured nose during last Saturday's derby against Torino but is unlikely to opt for a protective mask upon his return to the field. Szczęsny, known as "Tek," sustained the injury from an inadvertent arm strike by Torino defender Adam Masina towards the end of the match, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Despite the fracture, the Polish keeper finished the game before undergoing surgery to address the nasal bone fracture.
In a video shared by Juventus on the social media platform X, Szczęsny humorously dismissed the idea of sporting a mask during his recovery. "You wanted to see Tek running with the mask on? Never! Never with the mask! The mask is for Zorro," he quipped, his nose visibly bandaged.
Zorro, the fictional masked hero known for his swashbuckling adventures, served as Szczęsny's lighthearted reference to the concept of wearing masks.
Although initially expected to miss a few upcoming matches, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri announced during a press conference that Szczęsny would be available for Friday's game against Cagliari.
Comparatively, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been wearing a mask since January 2022 due to facial fractures sustained during play. Despite his recovery, Osimhen continues to wear the mask for added protection and reassurance on the field.
